Risk and Resilience

How can we prevent long-term impacts from the vaping epidemic?

Young people, sitting in a classroom with their backs to the camera, raise their hands to answer a question from the teacher at the front of the room. Overlaid is text that reads "Back to School Event Series"

As children and young people transition back to school, we are running a new webinar series, where we will be looking at some of the key issues affecting them during this time. The webinars are particularly relevant to professionals who work with children and young people, such as teachers, youth workers, and parents, as well as to policymakers and campaigners wanting to learn more about can be done to tackle these issues.

In this webinar, we will explore how and why children and young people are vaping despite never smoking cigarettes, the unknown long-term health impacts of these products, the growing evidence that vapes are becoming a gateway to other addictions and/or riskier behaviours, and finally, the protection measures that Government should take to prevent further uptake and to protect children and young people from harm.

Our panellists will include:

  • Tracy Scares, Senior Service Manager (Substance Misuse) at Catch22,
  • Mike McKean, Vice President for Policy at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, and
  • Sarah Parker, Research and Development Officer (Risk and Resilience Services) at Catch22.
